On this gorgeous May day I'm so excited to have a new purple tulip wall hanging! I also have 2 videos for you on the quilting of it and some other tips. This has been so fun to do!
Do you remember my debate when we started? I made a few options when I announced the sew along and needed to pick one to work on. I'm so happy I went with the 4 block tulip wall hanging from my 'Celebrate the Seasons' I was debating with myself and I'm happy this quilt won. I have a perfect spot in my kitchen to hand it so I can enjoy it every day, I'll show you at the end.
If you make this with 3 tulips across it would be a fantastic baby quilt.

TIP:
- First let's chat backing. I have pieced my backings since I first started quilting, do you do that too? Someday I'll show you some backings, including that first one!
- I had 1/2 yard pieces of 2 different green fabrics for my backing.
- Sewed them on the long side. Trimmed away the excess on the sides.
- Then sewed the trimmed section to the top as it was not long enough.
TIP:
- I spray basted this top and it was ready to quilt.
- I showed these 2 Aurifil 50wt thread options at my quilting neighborhood and the overwhelming vote was for the variegated.
** Aurifil 50 Wt, some packages are on sale!
** My Aurifil Thread Kits, Perfect box of colors, neutrals, and more!
While machine quilting I noticed that little crinkle. I used my thumbnail to smooth it out and it's totally gone now.
Decisions on how much to quilt come down to time. Always.. time...
TIP:
- In the 2nd video I tell you my chat I had with myself on how much to quilt this. I really had to hold back from doing more as I don't have time right now for it.
- So I'm very happy with it! I'd still like to do one with more rows of quilting.

TIP:
- Trimming with my Olfa square ruler that has a no slip backing. And using my wonderful Olfa Splash rotary cutter.

- I put a hanging sleeve on almost every quilt. That gives me the flexibility to use it on the wall.
- I use the excess fabric from the backing for the hanger. I cut a strip the width of the quilt and 3" to 5" depending on size of the quilt. Wider for a large quilt as the pole to hang it will usually be thicker.
- Press under 1/4" on the long side. And press under 1/4" on each end. I generally do not sew the ends but if it will have heavy use I do. Heavy use would be a quilt that travels and is taken down and hung up often.
- Place on the top edge of your quilt, use binding clips to hold the top edge.
- Use Roxanne's glue to glue baste the bottom edge - see below for how that looks
- This will be secured in your binding.
TIP:
- Easy label making with my Triangle Label method (See my full tutorial HERE)
- Take a square
- Fold in half, press.
- Put in the corner before doing binding
- Run a basting glue line under the folded edge. Clip the outer edges.
- Sew on your binding! It's double secure and only one edge to hand stitch!
