I have a little catching up with things today... hope you join me!

Last Monday ... which seems SO Long ago... I emptied my studio totally.. down to nothing in it but my Desk & Tiara so that I was ready for my New Koala Studio

Lots of cleaning happened ... and then ...

My beautiful new Koala furniture arrived!

We spent all day Thursday setting it up and The work of putting everything back started.

This is a total make over of where things go. Not everything can be put back as I'm leaving it more open and airy than before. I will be doing a before & after article + a some videos.. so be sure you are signed up HERE to know about them

The process so far has been -

• Friday - All the small things got new homes in my room
• Saturday - Furniture moving... nothing buy my desk stayed in this room. So things were repurposed, given to neighbors, and reorganized into other spaces in my very small home.
• Sunday - Fabric sorting and decisions on what stays in the studio and what is moved to my new storage area in another room of my home.. which on Saturday we had to rearrange for.
• Monday - today I plan to finish the fabric and then look at my other storage area.. 

So hopefully that is the plan and by Wed I'll be back in business! 

The BEST new item I purchased so far for my studio makeover is this mat to stand on while cutting (not my floor..) it's a Chef mat and comes in all kinds of colors and patterns

How I quilted the Golden Coins with a Walking Foot + a Giveaway!

I am Super excited to share my love of the Walking Foot on my Baby Lock Destiny II. It's easy to install and easy to use... you will be quilting your own quilts in no time! And at the end, enter my giveaway!

I decided to use a soft open wave for my quilting. In the video that follows I show you how easy it is to put on the Digital Dual Feed foot (walking foot).

I am using stitch 2-18 on my Destiny II, this is the default setting. 

What I really love about this machine is that I can save, by stitch, 5 variations. That way I have all the ones I usually use right in memory to call up immediately. And it's VERY easy to save a custom stitch setting, just a click and done! 

Here I adjusted 2-18 so that it is much more open.

This helps with the batting layer so it's not going to pull. 

The two awesome features for machine quilting are 

1- the large harp (throat space) which makes it so easy to quilt your own quilt. Loads of room! 

2- the laser that helps me keep on track!  The laser can ALSO be adjusted, sweet!

This is the laser 'on' so that I can keep going straight as I stitch.

Golden Coins Baby Lock Love of Sewing Challenge Construction tips!

Today are my thoughts on putting the coins together. This really is a quick quilt, I saw several in progress at my Facebook group plus one that as done!

Here is the full quilt hanging outside on a chilly day when we in Virginia had a dusting of snow.

The pattern is below if you have not yet downloaded it.

I am using a jelly roll because

1. The strips are already cut into 2.5" wide
2. And I wanted to variety of the full line of fabric .. because I love working that way!
3. you can use your scraps or other fabric yardage for this. 

Next is to cut the 6.5" long rectangles

I like to arrange them before I start sewing. That way when I get to the machine I just zoom zoom zoom!

But before you start zooming along, let's check our seam allowance, because  you don't want one row shorter than the other.

Here is the quilt math

• 2 1/2" wide strip + 2 1/2" wide strip = 4 1/2" wide strip.
• Here is my EASY way to do 'Quilt Math'
  • USE the FINISHED width ....... 2" + 2" = 4" then add the 1/4" seam allowance on both side 4" + 1/4" + 1/4" = 4 1/2
• if you lined them up well, it will still be 6 1/2" long. This 6 1/2" square ruler is perfect for checking
• If your 1/4" seam is off, use my tutorial

My Method

• I sew 2 at a time until the stack is done
• After those are all sewn, I create 4 stacks of 15 sets, which is 30 total strips
• Sew up the stacks!

This will not use the full jelly roll but I wanted the variety that it gave me, plus I had this on hand. BONUS right!  

Grab a Jelly Roll and you can squeeze quite a few more coins out of what is left and make a slightly smaller one or use the extra's for my Solstice Quilt Challenge (going on HERE)

• VISIT Babylock for the rest of the Designer projects
• My favorite 6 1/2" ruler
• My jelly roll & sashing is Bee Creative from Moda. It has been out awhile but I spotted some HERE. You can also use Deb's follow up line for a similar look called 'Bee Inspired" from HERE.
• The Yellow fabric is much older from a line called 'A La Carte' by American Jane. It's been out of print awhile, I had it in my stash. This is the exact same color in the Bella Solid ...and i like this one from American Jane with the dots
• I'm working with Aurifil 50wt Gold thread too!
• Friday I'll show you how easy it is to use the Digital Dual Feed walking foot and show i quilted it.
