Pat's Tip
- I do the cut away or 'donut' method of fusible applique. That way my shapes are soft. For the berries they are full fusible.
- You can learn all my fusible applique secrets in my Teach me to Applique book
TIPS:
- I did full fusible stems for this project.
- Cut a strip of fusible about 4" wide by 16" long
- Place is on the DIAGONAL, which is your fabric Bias, of your stem fabric. This will allow you to curve the strips
- Karen's stems are 1/4" wide. I cut my 3/8" wide, which is an 1/8" of an inch wider.
BACKGROUND:
- Many people like to cut their background square a little larger, then trim it down.
- I'm not those people. I cut mine the exact size. I find i do not have shrinkage.
**12.5" square ruler
TIP:
- Find the center
- Place your flowers
- Then place the shortest stem, next shortest, and longest
- I'm pinning INTO the wool mat to hold it in place. The thread caddy is perfect for this with the magnet on the side!
- Check for placement to the photo. I decided my longest stem in the middle needed a sharper angle so adjusted before fusing.
**Thread cutter Caddy with the magnet, SO useful!
TIP:
- I had the stems over hang then trimmed them straight after i had it all fused
- Fuse from the flowers then start the stem at the flower end so you can ease it out if needed.
