UFO Friday and Some other cool stuff

Welcome to our first UFO Friday!  I talked about this idea of mine on my Fireside chat this week about having 1 or 2 days a week where I plan to work on something specific. I don't want to be TOO crazy by having each day be a scheduled task, that doesn't work for my brain. But maybe Tues and Friday will be a day I plan to work at least a little bit on a specific category, like UFOs (which is an UnFinished Object) . Friday is UFOs. So if nothing else but 10 minutes on a UFO is done, I'm then 10 minutes further along on that UFO!

On UFO Friday I'll show you my project + other cool stuff. I'll have a handful of tips, articles, interesting things that I run across.. you'll never know what I'll find!

UFO Friday

On UFO Friday we pinkie swear to work on a UFO. Feel free to roll that right into the weekend!

Mine is this Ballerina Quilt, called that because the white fabric as tiny ballerinas. It reminds me of my VERY short lived attempt at Ballet lessons!  I liked wearing the pink tutu best!

Started: Tumbler Quilt

I got in new dies for my Gemini Die Cut and have always wanted to make a tumbler quilt. I cut some of my new Bonnie Lane Fabric (in shops in Sept) and used it test out the die, LOVE IT!

Reading: The Art of Cozy

I love reading non fiction, it's what I mostly read. I tend to read about 8 or 10 different books at one time, alternating them. So I like books that teach and have chapters that I can pick up and read just one chapter and not feel lost.  The subtle art of being cozy is a book I found a few months ago and i love it! It's the idea of how we make life matter with the small and big things.  How to look for what will make you feel good. And the fascinating part is learning to identify what is your cozy and what makes others cozy. 

This is a book I'll read again.

Winter Wonderland Block #2 and catch up with #1!

I'm in love with the fabric kit we have for Winter Wonderland's books cover quilt, the Sleigh Bell Sampler!

Block #2 is the Scotty dog and it's so darn cute!!  I have a few tips and a short video for making this block below. There is one section you need to be sure you don't have your pieces turned, rest is regular sew and flip!  

The Fat Quarter shop and I created a great kit for this quilt with a super darling fabric line.

TIPS:

• Cut JUST what is needed. I needed 2 red squares for the Scotty dog so that is ALL I cut from that red stripe. 
• Some tips for directional fabric. For piece 'H" if you want the trees to all go the same way, but one vertical strip and one horizontal strip

I use the design boards to lay out all the pieces so I don't rotate them the wrong way.

For all my sew and flip I use the guidebeam on my Babylock Solaris.  My favorite option!

Here is how I determine which way I want directional fabric to go

TIPS:

• The Scotty's chin is a multi step process. The first part is to make a flying Flying geese unit
• Position the Point facing down, then take your red square for a sew and flip on the left
• Position stripe up and down if you want them going the same direction. 

Check placement before sewing!

The kit has similar feel to the fabric used in the book. The book was written a few year ago and that fabric is long gone.
