The Christmas Fig Book is Required
We only have 3 blocks left, I have 18 & 19 ready so we'll do both today! My schedule is a bit crazy coming up so I'm trying to get Block 20 done soon too and we can move onto the next sew alongs!
I am doing the tips with Something Blue Fabric as I make a 2nd quilt
TIPS for Making the Blue version
- This is the BEST block! I want a whole quilt of them. And it's a very forgiving block .. so enjoy!
- IMPORTANT - I cut just what is needed. I do not subcut as the book does because my fabric is not an exact substitution for the red/green quilt in the book. I don't want to waste any fabric
TIPS
- I find laying out the pieces with the design board and alphabitties is my saving grace.
- DESIGN BOARDS
- ALPHABITTIES
Pat's TIPS
- I liked using this thread cutter that i wore as a ring, velcro strap. It let me cut the chain piecing anywhere I was.
- And if you don't have a great thread cutter on your machine, this is super handy! They have one you wear too

Pat's TIPS
- I wanted a lot of pattern in my school house blocks so used fabrics in similar depth of color so that one set was not a lot darker than the other.
TIPS
- With so many pieces the design board and alphabitties were a MUST!
- What I did was put one set above the other to keep track.
- DESIGN BOARDS
- ALPHABITTIES

Pat's TIPS
Take the few extra minutes to line up the intersection so that when you sew your 1/4" you join that angle where it should be. Don't skimp and rush, or you'll have to unsew
I created all the roof units first as they had more to line up.
The bottoms were a breeze to sew!
We have one more block then one last post with both my quilts. The Red/Green is quilted.
- BUY a good 6.5" Ruler, this is my fav
- BUY the Trimming Ruler
- And buy a GREAT rotary cutter, Olfa in Pink, Turquoise and Purple!
- Wool Pressing Mat
- BUY an Oliso Iron for 20% off with FREE shipping an my code PATSLOAN20
- The digital is not exact fabric placement, it's just a draft for me to work from.
- AT the END share your block in my Quilt show! Several times during this sew along I will do random prizes for people who shared their blocks
