Today for my TulipFest Sew Along it's time to make a block.
I just got my quilt back from my publisher and went outside to take this photo, just in time for today!
During this sew along you can make the quilt. Either this size, smaller or larger!
Or you can make a table runner.
I LOVE how this turned out and the quilting my friends Cindy & Dennis did for me is perfect.
Maybe you want to add some placemats?
They are one of my favorite things to make to change out the seasons!
The main quilt has 3 types of tulip blocks.
One big square, I used a repeat of the polka dot.
And two types of pieced tulips.
One has all squares and HST that are the same color. And the other you make a heart in the middle. Look at the precious butterfly quilting!
I want to show you how I approach cutting fabric for a project. I usually cut exactly what I need.
So for the leaves, I need 2 squares.
I don't cut a strip, I just cut the 2 squares so I preserve my fabric and don't waste it by cutting more than I need to.
The leaves are made sew and flip style
- The photo on the left is my Baby lock Solaris guide beam that is built into the machine. You can learn about it HERE. I don't need to draw a line as the guidebeam lines up with my needle position and I just sew.
- If you not have a guide beam (it comes on many models of Baby lock), then draw the line and sew ON it.
Once you have sewn on the line, you will flip it over and press.
Step by Step photos available in my Triangle book
For my TulipFest Sew along we are using my Celebrate the Season's book, so be sure you have it
- the Quilt as a lap quilt
- The tulips as a wall hanging
- How about just a few blocks or even a single block?
- I also have this tulip table runner you can make with matching placemats!
