For the next few months on the 1st there are TWO releases.. so I've combined them because many of you are doing both my "Out of this World" and the Charity "Threadology" Quilt along.
- Out of this world this week is a surprise AND I have a tutorial on my floating Square in a Square.
- The Charity Block is such a COOL block you'll want to make a whole quilt of them. Let's get started.
Block #3 is Where we Learn about Space
And you will see there are FOUR identical blocks instead of ONE this month because they are the 4 corners of the quilt.
I will get the layout ready in April. Then you can start setting your quilt as you go.
There are still a JUST a few kits left, if you want to use the same fabric as I am. Links below to individual pieces if you just want to pick up a couple...
****************************
Tutorial .. left to right:
- I'm using directional fabric so I verify what it will look like when sewn by folding the square back to audition it. Looks good!
- Monitor how you set them down so you don't get one twisted. They are both going the same way.
- Use the Trimmer tool to cut away and create a bonus triangle set
- Trim both triangle sets away. I put these by my sewing machine to sew them as I start and ending other patchwork.
- Audition the 2nd set of squares for directional prints
- The finished square floats. The points do not go out the edges. That is how it's designed.
Things I love :
- MINI Trimming tool ON SALE
- OFLA Splash Rotary Cutter
- One Giant Stitch pattern - It's an amazing quilt. I saw it in person in October.
- NASA fabric, so neat to add into your quilt! This is the fabric used in One Giant Stitch
- DARLING Rocket pattern and this flannel panel + flannel space fabric.

** Charity block #3 **
On the 1st and the 15th we'll be sewing a set of blocks for the Charity Quilt along to support this year’s charity Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas!
The Fat Quarter shop is offering all of the patterns to make this quilt for free, they just ask that you donate $5 per pattern download to this amazing organization and 100% of the proceeds from the pattern downloads will be donated to Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas. The Fat Quarter Shop partnered with Moda Fabrics again who has generously worked with the them since they started doing these quilt alongs to benefit different organizations.
My quilt is being made with Sweet Tea Fabric, and will be auctioned to raise even more funds.
