Block #5 Christmas Figs Sew Along

Here we go, it's time for Block #5 of our Christmas Figs sew along, the super fun to do 9-Patchwork block!

Raise your hand if you want to make a WHOLE quilt with this block! FYI TRUE CONFESSION at the end

We are sewing from Joanna's Christmas Fig book. Red & Green like the book and I am doing the tips with Something Blue Fabric as I make a 2nd quilt

How This Works:

The Book is Required, it has the sampler of 20 blocks and the book has 10 additional projects using the blocks.

On the 2nd Friday & last Friday of the month I'll post notes about the next book.
I'm doing the blocks in the order they are in for the book, you have all the patterns in the book so you can work on it anytime you like.
There are lots of triangles, so pick up my Triangle book to have step by step photos and additional options for making them.

TIPS for Making the Blue version

This block is very straight forward, yeah!! I followed the red/green formula exactly.
Only change is that I used 5 blue fabrics instead of 3 red and 2 green. (3 + 2 = 5.. perfect!)
Mark your cut shapes to keep track. The alphabitties are perfect as they have numbers and letters to match the book.

Pat's Tips

This is a super fun block, I'm seriously looking at my fabric for a way to squeeze in a whole quilt.

Pat's TIPs:

I placed 2 darker 9-patch blocks in the center of each side.
Polka dots at top & bottom, just because

Thoughts on Leftovers

It was SO worth it on this block to be able to following the cutting directions. I do not care that I have this little bit of leftovers.
I think I can make a few 9-patch mug rugs with them. I'll give it a go and see how many.
Or you could us the extra 9-patches to put around a white square for a gorgeous label
Or give them to that friend that sews up everything, we all have that friend. ... oh.. is that YOU? then sew them up!
BONUS TIP.. I'm using a thick wool pressing mat and i am IN LOVE with these! They are very firm which is excellent for making your blocks flat, And flat blocks help you keep your patchwork accurate.

I am making the blue blocks weeks... a few days.. the day before.... I write the post using my digital rough draft above. The digital is not exact fabric placement, it's just a draft for me to work from.

TIP:

Be sure you download the supply list or read what is used for the blue one

Fabulous Fabric Series - My Halloween Coaster - FREE pattern

My last 'Fabulous Fabric, Halloween edition' post! 3 more quick little projects to decorate with

My goal for Fabulous Fabrics is to show you a lot of ways to use fabric and create a group of wonderful projects to decorate with.

What I started with

Bats Cat's and Jacks! fabric - I had a charm pack & a Layer cake
BOO Fabric line A Fat 8th bundle
I added some solids

today are some quick projects to use up what's left.. Coasters and mats!
