FIRST.. Did you read my interview yesterday with my friend Joanna and enter her giveaway??
Now onto Block #2!
We are sewing from Joanna's Christmas Fig book. Red & Green like the book, then I selected Something Blue Fabric from my friend Edyta to do a second quilt.
How This Works:
- The Book is Required, it has the sampler of 20 blocks and the book has 10 additional projects using the blocks.
- CLICK HERE for Supply list for both colors
- Christmas Figs fabric
- Something Blue Fabric
- On the 2nd Friday & last Friday of the month I'll post notes about the next book.
- Starts today and Ends June 2019.
- I'm doing the blocks in the order they are in for the book.
- You have all the patterns in the book so you can work on it anytime you like.
- There are lots of triangles, so pick up my Triangle book to have step by step photos and additional options for making them.
- For each block I'll have a few tips!
TIPS for Making the Blue version
- Look CAREFULLY at the sizes, these blocks have lots of sizes. DOUBLE CHECK before cutting ANYTHING
- Lay blocks out before sewing so you don’t mix up the pieces
- When cutting from a mix of fabric that is NOT exactly like the book, cut just ONE strip and subcut to see if you get all you need. The book is written to be efficient if you are using the same fabric placements, the blue version is NOT using all the same fabric placement. So I don’t want to cut an extra strip that is not needed.
- The extra cuts for the Red & Green are used later in another block, so keep track of them in a bag.
Tips for Block #1
- For the light blue cut one strip, then carefully subcut the squares. You will have just a sliver left over
- The same light fabric is used in all spots for the blue version.
- For ivory subcut the largest units first. NOTE that some are 4 of a piece and some are 2.
- I crease my block to get placement exact.. see next photo
- Fold back on the crease
- Verify you are not chopping off the point
- Carefully pin.
I did a little video chat and showed all the blocks too!

TIP:
- I love using my Babylock Destiny II's laser beam so I don't have to draw any lines.
- I sewed the cut off triangles together to make HST and trimmed to 2.5”
- Keep all the extra pieces for future blocks or to correct an opps!
- PS - BUY A SPLASH rotary cutter, it is THE BEST
TIP:
- When ever possible, Sew the units with the intersection on the TOP where you can see it
- Use your guidebeam looking ahead of where you are sewing, it works like a charm!
I'm so excited you joined me for this fun sew along!
TIP:
- Be sure you download the supply list or read what is used for the blue one
- AT the END share you block in my Quilt show! Several times during this sew along I will do random prizes for people who shared their blocks
