In 2010 I created the first original Block of the month for Aurifil and it was so much fun we've done it ever year since! 2018 is the start of my 8th year running this super fun program. Learn more about how it works at our intro of the 2018 team
When our June Aurifil designer, Kerry Goulder. I love the inspiration behind her block!
I have a few tips that helped me keep this straight.
My Babylock Destiny II laser light is a HUGE help in Paper piecing.
I use my open toe applique foot for visibility, and line the light up.
Some are easy like this one. But the Tonga block has a few trickier ones
This is an interesting angle
It's fairly hard to line that up by eyesight, not impossible, but with the laser guide beam I can have it lined up perfectly from outside the outer line before I even start to sew.
This is another thing I do, fold back to the finished size and line it up before starting
It lets me be SURE i am on the correct side of the block before I sew it.

I am very diligent about checking line placement front to back piece before starting.
I put a pin through and check.
Then I use wonder clips to hold it together for sewing. The pins distort the paper to much for my liking
Keep the pattern right next to you that Kerry has. It's an excellent reference.
I also keep the pieces with paper on and paper side up as I work so they don't get mixed around
My little quilt is growing with unique and awesome blocks!
The Goodies I used
- Black and White Fabrics .. which I need to collect!
- The black & white stripe
- Aqua prints
- 50wt Aurifil thread, there are some great SALE packets!
- Wonderclips
