On the first of the year I do things I want to be doing all year.. quilting, exercising, travel, and today.. living my Word of the year
My word last year was Story
So how did I feel about that word? I LOVE that word.. Tell a story, Create a story, LIVE my story.
How did I do? I ROCKED the Story!
In 2017 I helped quilters share their stories with you on my talk show, I wrote my own personal stories for the Solstice, Grandma's Kitchen and The Children's library sew alongs... this was my year of story telling. With more stories coming for Let's go Camping and In the Summertime
I totally got into the habit of thinking about things in a new way and writing. That meant I did a LOT of writing this year. Who KNEW my career would be as a writer... When did THAT happen.... when I identify more as a designer?
So what word do I want for 2018?
Some years nothing pops into my head. But this year.. THIS year it was almost automatic. My buddy Cindy (who's spa my quilts go to) is my word partner. We keep each other on track and she had her word first.. and when she asked me mine, It actually JUMPED into my head.

What is definitely happening in 2018?
My business, of course, and life as usual. And some new projects ... and a big birthday for my dad... and some goals I want to nail... keep reading!

What do I hope will happen in 2018?
I actually hope to sew more... weird eh? I am a designer in the world of quilting, this is my family owned business for 18 years ...but I find I'm not making complete project as much. I make a LOT of blocks and they go into things. .. but i miss that forward motion of getting it up on the wall and working through a quilt for a few days in a row. That type of making is sparse lately
What dreams do I want to nurture?
I'm a very practical person. So when I dream, I dream in full blown schedules, with time lines and to do lists...haha! I pick dreams that i can actually accomplish because I want to be successful at making them happen!
But what if... what if I had a dream.... a dream to take off and explore.. to change up habits I've had for a very long time.. a dream that I can sort of feel.. but it has no form yet.. 2018 might be my year to find that whisper that is there to figure out what it is. -
What qualities do I want to develop?
Exercising more... is that a quality? I need to stay healthy so I can do the things I want to do. I am very determined, you have to be to run your own business, but I tend to let exercise, stretching, long walks.. be 2nd class in my life. So I want to develop habits that make that front and center. I got a fitbit watch for Christmas and have set the reminders... which means it nags me each hour to get up and move. It's a first step.

What does my heart need?
This year my heart needs to make, To make for days in a row, to Make things that get me so excited I'm sewing at midnight, to make .. to make.. to make...
This year I've chosen "MAKE" as my word.
Here are some thoughts on how I plan to have 'Make' front and center in my life (remember I like plans & goals)
- Get out a project that I can have all precut and just be able to sew. Seems simple, but when I'm tired I don't want to read directions or make decisions on fabric. I just to sit & push fabric under my needle
- Take a project that I've wanted to make and set some time to work on it for several days. Like a job... no interruptions ...
- Get my partial projects paired down, then use some for making.
