Today is the day!!! My 5th year of designing, writing and hosting a Free Mystery Block of the Month (BOM). If you are new to my sew alongs, read on to learn how this one works.
I am VERY excited about the theme this year, Let's Go Camping!
This mystery is made possible by the wonderful people at FreeQuiltPatterns.info. This website is a portion of the company LikeSewWebsites that builds websites & webstores for your favorite quilt shops and quilt designers. They started this fun Free Quilt Pattern page for all of us! They also build lots of other business websites.. but we like the quilt ones best.. wink! They are a highly motivated group of techies and the wife of one owner is the quilt designer Kristen of CuteQuiltPatterns.com, so we are super lucky she convinced them to do fun things!
What I do is similar to what I do for the Aurifil Designer of the month block challenge and my Talk show for American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine.... I design, produce and run the projects for the companies I work with.
When I was bouncing theme ideas off my friends, Camping was a HUGE hit. So many of you camp, I didn't know!

HOW DOES IT WORK?
- Schedule - One block or the setting a month from January to October. 9 blocks total + the Setting. The block is released around the 1st of the month depending on weekends, schedules, holidays .. etc.
- PATTERN DOWNLOADS - Are always at >>> FreeQuiltPatterns.info
- Block Size - Pieced 12" finished blocks, 12.5" before you put into a top. Nothing too complicated.
- Quilt Size - 64" x 64"
- BLOCK #1 - Releases Jan 8, 2018 for a scheduling reason.
- ENTER YOUR EMAIL to receive an email of new blocks
- MONTHLY Giveaway! - Share your block at my site each month, I'll giveaway a fun prize to a random number winner, so you'll want to keep up with making and sharing your block each month!

- The block does not LOOK like the theme, it's just a way to have fun and create a great memory each month. I've done Globetrotting, Vacation time, and My Secret Garden, and the Children's library. All can be seen by clicking the 'Mystery Tab' on the top nav bar

This year my base fabrics are these great earthy, camping colors. I LOVE those dots!
When I think of my very first camping trip, it was with the girl scouts for a summer camp sleepover. That is my girl scout silverware set, did you have one of those? I'll be sharing my original camping ... mmm ... 'experience' with you in the near future.. Since my first camping was very woodsy, I went with outdoor colors, which will make a great guy quilt if you are planning to make one for someone special.
But.. truth be told... I'm more a glamper girl. So I can see this done is a totally different light color fabric way.
I also think this would be darling with a children's theme print like this one

In addition to the woodsy base line fabrics, I've been collecting woodsy theme prints like the ones above! I have a whole stack that I'll be adding in. Animals, trees, starry night sky. If you collect fabric, I bet you already have a few prints to kick start your project. A Fat Quarter is enough to sprinkle into your quilt.
