My good friend Lindsay Mayland has a darling pattern to use those 2.5" squares and asked me to join her tour to show how I used her tutorial!
Lindsay writes at Happy hour Stitches, but by day, she is one of the incredible team at American Patchwork & Quilting magazine that I get to work with! You see her often doing the Facebook live and running their UFO challenge.
Lindsay also was a designer in our Splendid Sampler book
Lindsay wrote the pattern to use a whole mini charm, I decided to cut up red and white scraps from my Sunday Drive line to use.
By the way.. if you ask me to do any project right now.. it will be red and white.. just so you know.. wink!
Here is how I approached this.
- I made the adorable 4-patch units.. now I want a whole quilt of them!
- They didn't lay very flat, so I pressed the center seam open
- Since I'm putting these side by side, I had to determine placement of the side triangles. Plus I turned the 4-patch units... because why make it easy?
- Deciding if I like it...mmm.. yep, I'm cleared to sew!
- Stacked the 2 different blocks to make it easy to chain sew
TIP: If you place the 4-patch on top, I feel you have more control over the block.
Being a small block it's easy to get it out of whack.
I used the seams of the 4-patch for lining up the triangle tip to sew
And when done, trimmed off the extra part before trimming the block to size. This got rid of some bulk.
With 8 block set 2 by 4 it gives me a nice mug rug!
I use these ALL over the place. My border is cut 1 1/4" wide.
I do believe chocolates go perfectly with this project!
