Amy of During Quiet Time is a good buddie of mine AND a very talented designer.
When Amy asked if I'd do a write up of her Improv Paper Piecing book I was honored and thrilled!
You can read it at Amazon.
Her books are amazing teaching tools, and sources for patterns.
I love how her cover is a cropped version of Paper Trail. Which IS my favorite quilt in the book!
She shows you several ways to layout the blocks.
So I really wanted to give this a try.. but which quilt?
I decided on Peacock Crossing. I liked that i could use up strips
So i made a test block.....
Using my new Sunday Drive in red & green.. I tossed in an older 'one for you one for me' word print. I'm going to fussy cut a word for a space!
I also decided to keep the template the same size as in the book instead of increasing it. So it's about 5.5"square
oh my oh my! YES to this one! What I love with improv piecing I can alter each one a bit if the fabric requires it or i just feel like it. They don't match up to seam in another block.
THIS is what scrap busting is all about!
Does it feel a bit Christmasy to you? I may need to do a few more!

This has to be the MOST adorable panel .. you can make a fast childrens' quilt.. practice your quilting AND have a gift! I have a little niece or nephew arriving this summer.. and I do think I need to make this!
