I wanted to get my word of the year out today because I felt like writing this.. so... let's do this!
My word last year was SPACE.
So how did I feel about that word? I LOVE that word.. Make SPACE to think, to create, to BE...
How did I do? I sucked!
2016 was one of my fullest years ever. FULL of amazing and wonderful projects and adventures, but I had NO space.
This last week I started to shovel .... sort things..... to create some physical space as later in January I'll be redoing my studio area.
So what word do I want for the year? Like some years, nothing pops into my head.
I have thought of
FUN!
Mostly because last year was so FULL. So here is what I ask myself to zone in.

What is definitely happening in 2017?
My business, of course, and life as usual. AND late in 2017 I'll have my very first Museum exhibit of my work at the Virginia Quilt Museum. Which is kind of super cool!

What do I hope will happen in 2017?
I actually hope to finish more UFOs.. weird eh? I quilt for a living, but I have these older projects, or projects that never got to be 'grown up quilted quilts'... So I'm culling down my stack to projects I really want to spend time on. Having quilted for over 20 years means that I change, styles change and I do not want to spend my precious time on things that are not 'me' anymore.
I also want to have that SPACE from last year so I need to put things in motion to give myself creative time and physical space to work. -
What dreams do I want to nurture?
I'm a very practical person. So when I dream, I dream in full blown schedules, with time lines and to do lists...haha! I pick dreams that i can actually accomplish because I want to be successful at making them happen! So I'm going to really look at my space and create a calm area and get to some things I want to do, like walk more. My dreams are usually fairly normal stuff!.

What qualities do I want to develop?
This is the question that I think will give me my guidance. For a long time I've thought about journaling. I have started writing daily so many times I've lost track. I read something recently about person who always wanted to try a craft.. so they finally did and realized THAT was NOT for them! Even though they had dreamed of it for years.
That is journaling to me... something that is not for me.
BUT what IS for me.. is writing here. And writing more than just a sentence or two about a photo. What I want to develop is deeper writing, to write what I think about what I'm sharing, to tell my story.

What does my heart need?
This year my heart STILL needs that space to think, space to create, time to enjoy what I have, time to make. But my heart also wants to tell my creative story and share it here. With Images and words... what do you think?
This year I've chosen "STORY" as my word.
Here are some thoughts on how I plan to tell my storyt
- When I create, what was I thinking when I made the piece, why did I pick those colors, that print
- When things go smooth to celebrate
- When the process is not smooth.. talk it through
- Thought about where we travel
- What I see
- Even very small things.. every day there is something interesting to think about.
