my Block 23 is from friend Kari Carr.. this is really a clever block!
The story of her block is so sweet, you are really going to love it.
As I make my blocks, I think about the designers story. Do I have a similar one, or does their story take me on another path. For Kari's I went on another path as I was making this block.
First I had to learn something new, that spike unit is awesome cool to make...
My tip, cut an extra set of white units for it.. Mr. Ripper and I had a little date on the first try!
As I was picking fabric, that is where i let my mind wander.. I had just recently bought some of this incredibly adorable panda fabric... and all my many years of panda love came back to me.
As you will read many times during this journey, my family.... for the most part... didn't sew.. or make things.. so I don't have gorgeous stories about sewing. But I have other stories my fabrics bring forward.
My mom and I went to the Washington DC Zoo, which has Pandas, and that is where I bought this mug. I love the graphic so much and I've held onto this mug for many many years.
It was back deep on the mug shelf, but now, I'm keeping it out. I think I'll fill it with sewing things and keep it on my cutting table.
My big tip for trimming this block - I use the FULL size edge on the ruler. I found the 1/2 marks get confusing when I'm doing 3/4". So flipping the ruler lets me have less clutter this time.
I love how this turned out! What fun to try something new with Kari's block!
