When I designed Hometown Charm I knew I'd want to host a sew along. I personally LOVE to make a quilt along with other people. It's great to see their versions, it's motivating to now that when that block is assigned, it's time to make it! Even if you can sew ahead, often I don't because I prefer to just have fun!
I made my quilt in a cotton version and a batik version. I'll be sharing them both as we go along!
The Sew Along is broken into 12 units, and we'll do one unit ever other week so at the end of Sept you'll have a fantastic quilt all done!
Of course you can sew ahead, i know sometimes we get on a roll.. that's awesome if you do!
The Sew Along is designed to let us step out of our busy lives, pick a section of a quilt and accomplish that. It's a GREAT feeling to select just a single unit to make with no expectation that more HAS to be done right now.
I have wanted to work with an orange peel shape FOREVER.. like FOREVER.. and never did.
They are appliqued ovals on a background that touch in the center.
For my pattern i have you cut one background shape, and fuse all 4 ovals on it meeting at the middle. You'll see the version above i tried with a 4 patch, which is another way to handle it.
TIP - crease your background both ways to make a '+' and that makes it easier to place the ovals!
