Diane Knott of butterflythreadsquilting has written a book that is so fun you are going to need to own it! "Scrap Quilt SECRETS" .. oh yes.. our kind of quilter .. right? Let me tell you my secret sauce of scrap management.. and how I used Diane's book...
A few years ago I decide to just cut scraps up into 2.5" squares.. for the most part. I'm not 100% pure to this, but I do it a lot. This basket I use as anchors when piecing. I sew 2 together and that way the threads don't tangle and guess what....
I end up making blocks.. which become quilts!
I piece these 6 x 6 blocks... usually in a color scheme. Right now it's most green and creams.
When Diane sent me her book I was thrilled! She has SUCH great ideas for how to think about our scraps and how to use them.
There are sections on how to use repeating.. how to make modern scrap quilts, and folk art scrap quilts.. but honestly.. the quilts themselves are fantastic! Do you spot the checkerboard on the one quilt? And the flowers on the cover quilt.. adorable!
I have not met a Basket quilt that I don't want to make, and this is no exception.. add rick rack.. swoon worthy for sure!
I decided to combine her checkerboard and the cover flowers to make a table runner. What a FUN WAY to use up squares and leftover fabrics!
Here I an auditioning stems and leaves, thinking that the power of 'repeat' as Diane suggests, will be perfect so you don't lose the images.
Here it is fused! I'm going to stitch the green in something dark, make a darker grey, then they will pop on the background!
Now for the fun! Diane and C&T Publishing are giving away a LOT of books, everyone on the tour is giving one away!
But first.. if you can't wait to see if you win, BUY YOUR OWN COPY HERE.. you won't be sorry!
Leave me a comment by the evening of April 2 telling me
"Are you are Hard Core Scrap quilter where it ALL goes into one quilt
or do you do a controlled scrappy look?"
