Pat Sloan: A recap... a few tools that I can't live without

Do you review things as the year rolls to a close? I know some people are not crazy about that kind of thing.. but I kind of am! I'm going to start reflecting by sharing a few tools that help me survive! Sounds kind of dramatic right? But seriously... these things make it easier for me to do what I do,  make it easier to enjoy what I do, and to have fun!

My tablet!!!!  Holy cow, I love tablets! What's on them?

My Books, magazines, recipes, the internet (wheeeeeeeee!), Facebook with all my quilt friends, access to information, and.. drum roll.. they are small and I can take them anywhere.

ANYWHERE....

Since I've been using computers since 1975, having one that fits in my purse is sweet... much better than using a machine that took up the entire floor of an office building!

Reflecting on the year, what else have I used that really helps me relax? To makes my day enjoyable. What brought me joy this year? What did I do when I needed a little break during the work day?  When you start thinking like this we quiltmakers always think sewing machine, fabric, thread, and our quilting buddies!

And those ARE 'It' for sure! But today I'm thinking of other things.

I have always loved tea. My mom drank tea when I was little and I can't remember when i did not drink it. Then i discovered coffee, and love that too!  

Often in the afternoon I'll stop what I'm doing. Stop writing, researching.. and go brew a cup of tea. This year I've really loved my hot water maker ... a Lot. I like to use it instead of microwaving hot water. Pouring the hot water over the tea bag, letting it sit to get just right, it's all part of taking a break.

This year  I wore out my unit! Now... 

 I've got THIS ON ORDER.

 

A calendar. I'm obsessed with knowing what day it is.. and what the next days are. Yes I CAN look at that online, which i do. But there is nothing better than glancing over to see my calendar and flipping the pages.

Pat Sloan: Inspiration Look Book - Is white really a color?

In December I'm much more interested in snow than any other time of the year!  And snow is generally white, but white with hints of color ... right? The colors it's on, the colors it becomes.. let's see what white is about today here at my Look Book!  

We have lots of white things in our home, i bet more than you think!  Some interesting, some not so interesting, but they are not all the same shade are they? 

White with other colors makes them sparkle!

Paired with red? perfection

This awesome quilt was in American Patchwork & Quilting magazine and designed by my friend Lissa Alexander.

What makes quilt like that amazing is text prints! These come and go, I always have some in my fabric lines. I love this one... ON SALE HERE.. woohooo!

As a kid I lived in Europe, and most winters we went to Austria to Ski.

There was ALWAYS snow.. always! And lots of it! The villages were just magical. I wish I had been into photography then. Click that photo to see a larger image at Flickr

This December I won't be seeing any snow, which is ok... some years are like that!

I spotted is stunning kit using Downton Abbey Fabric.. WOW... I've never made a quilt that is shades of creams and whites. Have you? Buy the kit HERE.. i might have to!
