I love my job! Every month I have a chance to find out more about one of the designers that uses Aurifil thread. This time it's my good friend Sara Lawson of Sew Sweetness, you will love her mini! If you are reading in your email notice, click the banner to see my full article!
I decided to do just one part of her mini quilt as I'm filling in areas now for my LARGE quilt of all Mini quilts!! how can I have a large all mini? Well I am sure I can!
Sara loves a challenge and used some curved piecing. Let me give you a tip on how to handle that.. read on my friend!
(The link to my interview and the pattern is at the end of my article)
My top process for curved blocks
- Use your walking foot to evenly feed the fabric
- put a pin at each end, and maybe one in the middle. Try with and without the middle pin to see which works best for you.
- Put the red red piece on the bottom. this allows you more control
- use your stiletto to keep the top piece aligned to the edge of the bottom piece
- sew slowly
- you can do it!
My steps to keep things organized. Plus use that photo as a guide for how to trim the curved block. It is oversized so it's easy to trim!.
Let's see them all together!
Each time i put them all up on the wall it becomes more and more exciting!
Here is my oversized quilt of minis. I think i will use parts of the next ones to fill in the areas that are open. Then I have to pick a setting color!
What setting color would you pick?
