When my friends write a book I am VERY excited for them, and when they send me a copy I just might let out a little squeal when I open it! Barb and Mary of Me & My Sister Designs have a new book published by 'It's Sew Emma' that is oh so clever!
Precut Primer is based on the 12 grades of school! Some are easy, some are more detailed, and all use precuts.
Barb, Mary and the FatQuarter Shop are running a tour with 12 of us sharing a grade and I'm First Grade!!
I just love this fast fun way to use a mini charm.
First grade uses Mini Charms (2.5" squares) plus a background. I decided to use Anne Sutton's adorable Mistletoe Lane!
I really love this line as it has pink and brown plus the red and green.. and ice-skates... ice-skates! They are so cute!
I opened one package to put the colors on a background. First was this tiny red dot on cream. It reads pink.
Then the darker grey solid, which looks very elegant, don't you think?
One more.. the medium spaced Moda Essential black dot on white. I use this alot and really like it for a background. It's a winner!
So how will the block look spaced out? This is a LARGE block, so spacing is important. This is my rough audition. Now to get serious!
I sorted the colors into piles so I could be sure I got them spaced around and the prints spaced around the block. I didn't want all the green in one corner.
And I added two Bella Solids (links at the end). This gave me room to do.....
One block plus a border!
I used the 2 mini charms, the background, red and green solids.
I can't WAIT to quilt it, I'm going to use it for a table topper.
This is my grandmother's poinsettia bowl, It's going to look great on here.
I can remember going to first grade in a 2 room school house. That makes me sound really OLD, but they build these during a huge baby boom. Now days they put up trailers for extra classroom space, back then they built a 2 room school, with playground, in the area where all these kiddos had popped up! And yes.. we walked to it.. up a hill... in a snow storm... wink!
Now the fun part... I have a copy to giveaway!
Tell me your favorite memory from 1st grade.
I'll pick a winner the evening of Sept 10.
