When Nancy Rink sent me her pattern I might have squealed! I am very fond of basket quilts, and her Aurifil Mini Quilt is SO adorable! Nancy is a clever designer and I know you are going to love the interview I did. But first let me show you a little tip.
Ok this isn't the tip, but this is how I work! All my fabrics for the mini's are together as I'm making them so they can go into one quilt.
(Pattern link is at the end)
Nancy creates an oversized handle unit. I made mine even a bit MORE oversized as I like having the extra.
You can see here that the top looks like it will NEVER match the bottom.. but it will! You will trim it to the size she gives you.
My tip is to trim ABOVE the handle first leaving a bit more than a 1/4" .. like a thread more.
With the top rectangle the right size I have to trim the sides of it.
I came up with an EASY way! Line up the bottom just like this. then use IT to trim the top to match.
EASY ... right?
Good gosh these are sweet! I now want a whole quilt of them!
Nancy added some applique.. YEAH!
I sewed my block together so that the stem END would be in the seam instead of sitting on top. You'll see that in the pattern (link at the end)
But if you prefer, you can do it all baskets. Many of the mini's a around 20", but I want one for my grouping that is smaller, So I decided to just do a 4 block unit and border it.
Let's see them all together!
This is getting exciting! I don't know what each mini looks like, so it's a mystery to me when it shows up. I'm working on color placement now so that each new mini has what is needed to make the quilt amazing. I'm also thinking on the setting.. until I have them all I can't decide but it's going to be fun!
