I am very excited to be working with Craftsy to review the quilt classes for you! I have a SUPER FUN set of classes to reveiw for August.. ALL by instructors whose first name starts with an 'A'!! And I nuts? Nope... because I secured a limited time discount for you on EACH ONE!
I'm so passionate about learning and teaching. I have taken many classes at Craftsy since and I've interviewed many of their instructors.
Let's get to it!
I wanted to review a great beginner's course. So many quilters are learning, and many start out with a simple quilt of squares, or maybe a rag quilt. Then they want to increase their knowledge of quilt construction, sashing, how to quilt it themselves and binding.
Amy Gibson is a good friend of mine and a wonderful instructor. She has a whole series on learning to quilt. This one takes you through using strips, proper way to add sashing, and then she shows you how to finish the quilt yourself.
You are going to Learn so much when you take this class!
Here is part of the class roster. As you make this quilt Amy gives you incredible tips on the proper way to build blocks and assemble them. If you are self taught with rag quilts or just squares, this class will give you that solid base of knowledge so you can go forward to make amazing quilts!
- Just one quilt is made, that way you can focus on learning technique
- Super close ups of everything she is doing
- Amy explains in detail so you won't miss a thing, and you can rewind to watch again!
As with all Craftsy classes, if you want to skip a section, just click to the topic you want and the video goes right to it. I think this is the best feature!
This is also a closed captioned class, so there is text you can read.
So many quilters tell me they want to learn how to cut strips better and more accurate. This section on cutting is very detailed.
What I really like is that there is a mix of overhead shots like this one, plus close ups. That way you feel like you are actually standing right there.
You can take your tablet to the cutting table and watch this AS YOU cut your own fabric. It's a perfect way to learn.
In the Binding section Amy shows you one way to accomplish this without extra tools, which is pretty much how I do it. I like that it's simple and I'll bet this is the way it's been done for many years, but it can be tricky! So take your tablet over to your machine when trying this and watch along!
Plus I like that she did the demo on a small table mat. Binding a small project yourself will give you more control when learning.
at Craftsy you can ask the instructor a question or leave a comment.. here is what someone said
- Q- Do I use the same weight thread for both piecing and quilting?
- A- you can definitely use the same thread weight for both of these purposes.
This class is like buying a learn to quilt book, great for filling in the gaps in your basics knowledge, and wonderful to give as a gift to someone just learning.
I know you are going to enjoy this and I'm excited to be sharing it with you. Once you have registered, sign up for the class and it's yours forever. Watch it over and over.. and yes.. over again!
Now for the fun part! I have a 57% off discount for you
