I am BEYOND excited to share with you my sew along for my favorite quilt The Farmer's Market (shhh.. don't tell the others)
I think the Farmer's market is a magical place. Maybe it's because my granny worked at one all her life. As a little girl I'd go to the market with my grandfather to pick her up from work. She worked two different markets, one was indoor, the other outdoor.
She worked for Kessler company, so it was the meat counter we headed for. I remember standing at the case and reaching up as she gave me a slice of Lebanon Bologna or sharp cheddar cheese. We always got there just before she got off work. That meant I had a chance to look around with my grandfather.
This sew along will be one block a month, nice and easy right? I'll share something about each block when we get to it. Maybe a story, or another way to use the block, or a recipe I've found.
Starting next month I'll put up a Quilt show that will be the same one for the whole 12 months, that way we see... or is it SEW our progress!
This is going to be super fun!
I had a bit of a giggle taking the quilt outside for photos... then I made a short slide show .. we had a really pretty and GREEN day to take these photos... enjoy!
My Farmer's Market quilt is one of the MANY quilts in my book 'Pat Sloan's Teach me to Applique' which is a whole class in a book PLUS quilts to make.. yeah me for packing so much into ONE book for you!
Step 1 for our sew along is
- Get out my book, You will need the book as that is where the pattern is.. I'll sign your copy from HERE
- if you prefer a Digital book, GO HERE AND my book is found at your favorite quilt shops!! Many are ALSO sewing along, so check out your shop and ask for my book
- Start gathering your fabric. I'd love for you to make this quilt your own using your very favorite fabrics. how about using some of your precious scraps for the applique, the ones you've saved for something special? A unique fabric for the apple, or those wee scraps for the leaves?
- The 2nd Wed of each month is the next block. We are starting in the top left with the squash, and I'm SURE there is going to be a yummy recipe next month!
- Use the hashtag #PatSloanFarmersMarket on your photos you share!
If you have never done fusible applique, my book shows you everything. Here is a peek at part of the process. It is VERY EASY, so you can do this! You can do hand applique and I have this VISION of someone doing the quilt as redwork.. anyone planning that?
The border is the largest color on the quilt, what colors will you use? I can see this with Aqua, Green, Purple! Let me know in the comments!
