Pat Sloan: Vacation Time in the Dog Days of summer, with a Twist!

It's the Dog Days of summer, August and guess what? I am giving you something to work on that is easy... with a twist!

 

Woohooo! Salt Water Taffy!  This is actually the block for the Inner Border. I'm giving you this simple block that you can make for that space. you do neeed a few of them,  and you have plenty of time to do them!

This is great mindless work for summer. I suggest  you cut out all the squares, then work on them at a pace that is nice and comfortable!

What is it about Salt Water Taffy that is so awesome? I think it's because you usually get this on vacation, right? Have you ever thought to yourself in the middle of October, darn I'd love some salt water taffy right now?

Looking around I found this short fun video on making your own.

How did this taffy come about?  According to Wiki

"Candy store owner David Bradley's shop was flooded during a major storm in 1883. As a result of the flood, his entire stock of taffy was soaked with salty Atlantic Ocean water. When a young girl came into his shop and asked if he had any taffy for sale, he is said to have offered some "salt water taffy." At the time it was a joke, because all his taffy had been soaked with salt water, but the girl was delighted. She bought the candy and proudly walked down to the beach to show her friends. Bradley's mother was in the back and heard the exchange. She loved the name, and so salt water taffy was born"

Pat Sloan: Inspiration Look Book - Pretty in Pink, it's not what you think!

There is a color I use sometimes, but not that often. It's pink.  I love pink in nature, i love pink in things, and yes... I love pink in quilts and have used it. But it doesn't seem to get into my quilts THAT often. The last time was my String Bean Challenge quilt... remember that one?  This is my new series of articles is called 'Inspiration Look Book' and I created a category on the right sidebar so you can find them all. 

First my Pink collection.  Actually I could just take this bin and use it! I think it would all blend super nice in a scrappy quilt. Add in a balancing color... Green, White, Black, Grey, Navy... 

A lily from my Garden, real life PINK! I'm always amazed at the colors in flowers. This is paired with white, green, orange and some grey ground. 

I love this Super cool pink round up!

My goodness... Pink Flamingo and Christmas, all pastel, with light blue, browns, taupes.. pops of green. look at the COLORS. 

Of course pink candy must be had.

Do people really USE Pink Vespas? I love it! Bubblegum pink paired with black and many different greys.. i see this as a quilt!

Let's look at some quilts that are not baby quilts ... logcabins 

Granny squares... or... Pink Vespa quilt ... 

Gorgeous pink dresden being auditioned on grey .. I'd use all 4!

Look at this super cool improv quilt! all the made fabric, the fun units, I wonder if she ever finished it? 

An antique quilt ends this Look Book. Pale pinks, navy and bright yellow! I wonder if those pink fabrics were more bold originally and faded to this color?
