I want to show you one step in my soft and easy fusible applique! The tracing and cutting out makes a HUGE difference in how your applique feels. Let me show you.
Here is my tool box

- Havel Scissors
- and a Pen!
I'm tracing a shape from my Teach me Fusible Applique Book
The strawberry is a great one to start with.
Trace the shape with your pen.
Now I'll cut around the shape so I can handle it.
Don't get too close to the drawn line, leave yourself some room around it.
I cut through the line (did you GASP???)
and trim away the inside leaving JUST a 1/4" or less 'basting rim'.
This is what you have.
The piece on the LEFT is the inside and can be used for other shapes.
Now place the fusible side DOWN on the back side of your fabric.
And Press. My book has lots more details, so get it out!
I want to show you that sometimes the cut does not match, usually I make sure it does, but if it doesn't ... that tiny gap won't hurt anything, just keep going!
Now you cut ON the line for the final shape.
This is what it looks like.
My strawberry needs a top, right?
Pull the paper off and put the shapes on your background right side up!
Ta Da!! One strawberry! This is in my Farmer's Market quilt, from my book!
I think I'm going to make a mug rug.
My book has so much in it, it's really a class you can follow along with and reference!
