I am very excited to be working with Craftsy to review the quilt classes for you! I'm so passionate about learning and teaching. I have taken many classes at Craftsy since and I've interviewed many of their instructors.
Let's get to it!
Many of you have done freemotion quilting and you are ready to add new shapes and styles to your toolbox. It's great to get used to a comfortable pattern, but there are so many more easy options for you. My really good friend Debby Brown has this spectacular class filled with shapes for all the places on your quilt.
Debby's teaching style is very similar to how I teach. I love the way she presents and how she will give you a very realistic ways to approach each of the designs. YOU can do your own quilting!
I think you are going to be very pleased if you order this class and take it.
***************************************
Here is part of the class roster. She starts with an overview of basics with some very beneficial tips, like how she uses two different thread weights on top and bottom and works out tension for that.
As with all Craftsy classes, if you want to skip a section, just click to the topic you want and the video goes right to it. I think this is the best feature!
This is also a closed captioned class, so there is text you can read.
The focus of this class is giving you a set of new designs and not just show them to you, but explain how they are made and how you can use them.
Debby does this by grouping the shapes by a letter of the alphabet. Since you can draw the letter by hand, she uses that to show you how that shape turns into a quilting motif.
Each one is first drawn by hand for you as Debby has you watch .. that is what that line drawing is at the bottom right above. She will start at the left and draw the shape to the right.
Under the category of Ribbon Candy there are many variations, it's so exciting!
I will be watching this section several times. Clamshells are a favorite of mine and I love the method Debby uses. You can see that on the right she does mark grids for some designs, THAT is how they come out so nice and even.
at Craftsy you can ask the instructor a question.. here is what someone asked
- Q- What did you use to mark the quilt sample in 1" grids?
- A - Debby Brown
- I made a 1-inch grid using Golden Threads paper by stitching through it with no thread. I transferred that design with a Pounce Pad. Check out the Introduction at about 19:16 and I show my technique there.
This is a super section!
The section on how to applique while quilting is pretty fun. You know I do a lot of Blanket stitch by machine, but at times it would be great to either add a bit of applique after it's quilted, or to quilt through the layers in the center of a large piece.
I LOVE this technique, for small bits of applique on a project, which will also
quilt your piece. Remember the BACK will have that blanket stitch showing, but I like this idea for when I only have a few pieces of applique on a project.. it's fun!
I want to share this Student Comment.. it really sums up Debby's teaching style

- Not a question, just a comment. I have watched several people teach free-motion quilting and your explanations are by far the best I've heard. I have actually been going to the machine between each design and been able to recreate them. Thank you! :)
I know you are going to enjoy this and I'm excited to be sharing it with you. Once you have registered, sign up for the class and it's yours forever. Watch it over and over.. and yes.. over again!

I hope you take advantage of this Craftsy class by learning from Debby Brown!!
