Seriously it's a few days into the new Year and I did NOT get that UFO quilt basted, but ... now it is! Double backflip hoo-rah!
This quilt has been around for a bit, longer than eternity, waiting on it's turn to be basted and quilted. I can't tell you how excited I am to have FINALLY started that journey so this quilt can be a grown up quilt! Makes a ma-ma proud.
The project was done with my good friend Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill. I love her applique and the baskets are too adorable for words, so I had to make them when she first published the pattern..many... many years ago. (pattern link below)
I fused then HAND blanket stitched the whole quilt with Aurifil 12 wt thread. I love doing this as a take along project. The Embroidery is also Aurifil 12 wt.
When I was pulling this all out I thought it would be fun to do a time action video of me basting. This quilt is pretty small so that means you won't be watching paint dry. Ready?
It's a real life moment, in my t-shirt, no makeup, working it on a Sunday afternoon kind of project. It's only about a 1.5" min long and such fun to do!
If you have high speed internet, click the settings cogwheel in the lower right and see it in a higher resolution than the default.
Here it my favorite antique canning jar to hold my pins when I baste.
few more photos are at Flickr, click one to take you there.
And the quilt ready for me to start! I will first sew a grid with my walking foot in the ditch.
Then I'll free motion in the squares, sashing and border! I have the ditch done and did simple freemotion in 2 of the blocks so far, I can't wait to finish it up!
Here is how I pin baste (it was done AWHILE AGO). That tea cup is my pattern and so it the quilt behind me in progress, but is not available at the moment. It will be down the road. So be sure you get my newsletter and my articles
