I really love Jacquie's class on using your walking foot more creatively for machine quilting. It's something anyone can accomplish!
The class is filled with techniques that you can now add to your tool box for more beautiful quilting.
ALL the quilting in this class is done with your walking foot, which comes with most machines. And your feed dogs are UP so there is NO free-motion involved. Here is part of the class roster.
- Exploring the Basics - Even if you have experimented with your walking foot, you are going to learn a few things you didn't know already, I did!
- Decorative Stitches - I really think this is an area many quilters have not explored. Using a decorative stitch to put your layers together. Jacquie has done a lot of research and gives you a set of stitches to try and really explains them.
- Radiating Designs - Some quilts really call for a design that accents an area, this is the section that teaches you all about it.
- Quilting Curves and Turning Designs - They go hand in hand to show you how to make curves on your quilt.
- Quilting Text - oh my... this is NEXT on my list to try.. see below!
The section on matchbook quilting is awesome. I want to do this so bad! It's time consuming, but the look is incredible with all those little lines.
Jacquie tells us that the best way to go at this is to divide, divide, divide. She has you stitch in 1" intervals, then you return to stitch between those, and between those for a super densely quilted piece. She gives you guidelines on the exact way that will create the most successful look with no puckers, we do NOT want puckers!
The Decorative Serpentine stitch intrigues me. I like that she shows it being stitched and explains to you exactly where to line up this stitch so it looks beautiful when done in repeat.
All through this class Jacquie explains WHAT to look for to keep consistent.
Turning Quilt Designs give you that free-form 'look' with your walking foot. They are spirals and other shapes that add that curved quilting so many quilts need to really bring them up a notch.
I've tried this on my own, but after trying with Jacquie's tips, I'm much better at it!
