Today I have a review and giveaway of a class taught by my friend Angela Walters. Many of you may think that Angela only works on a longarm, but she also teaches on a home sewing machine. I decided to review, and giveaway her class on feathers, as feathers are my favorite image to see on a quilt!

One of the things I learned many years ago, is that the motion of quilting is not particular to machine. It's learning to draw the shapes that is important.
Angela's class in called 'Free-Motion Quilting with Feathers' and she shares how to do them on both your home machine and on a longarm during this class.
Not only does Angela live to quilt layers together, but she is a wonderful teacher. She breaks items down, shows you step by step, and explains what is going on.

When you think of feather quilting what images come to mind? Maybe not the one above, but the motion and creation of feathers, also gives you new tools to create a whole set of designs. Let's take a look at a few of the topics in the 'Free-Motion Quilting with Feathers' class.
- The Basic Feather shape - Once you understand how to break down the shape into it's stitching units, it's so much easier to do!

Angela does go between a longarm and a home machine during this class. Don't let that freak you out. When she stitches on a longarm mimic how she creates the design, not the mechanics of the machine. The machine really is not important. You can do all these things on either kind of machine.
One of the greatest tools in this class is how to think about the feather design to stitch it. That is really a key. Angela has diagrams and she stitches them out to show you the whole process.
She does do some marking and explains that you don't need to mark the whole stem, but a bit will get you started, this is fantastic to know
This might be one of my favorite new shapes, the fern. Do you see how forgiving it is to stitch? It's open, it's not going back on itself as you stitch. I feel it's very classic and one that any quilter can master!
This is the one sided 'swirl' feather for a block. Angela says the reason she loves this feather is that it is very versatile. You can do this in a small block or a larger block as it's easy to adjust to the size of your block.
And the best part? It's quick and easy!
Besides the feathers, she takes you through using the same basic concept and motions for meandering, quilted ropes, and more!
