I have a few end of year quilting traditions.
- I host my annual VIRTUAL Quilters Luau party (more at the end!)
- I pick a Word for the Year to follow and embrace. This year it has been Balance
- I clean up my studio
- I make project lists
- I do planning for my business
- And I put on my list to eat healthy and exercise more, as I have a LOT of quilts to make so i need to stay fit!
But the biggest is...
I challenge myself to finish UFOs. UnFinished Objects.
I have them, I create new ones, I finish some, and don't finish some... many. But each year I faithfully figure out a challenge with a goal and set it.
And for many years now I've challenge you to work along with me. I even have a whole section at my Quilt Bee for UFO busting chatter! It's SO fun and inspiring to motivate each other all year.
You can read all my past posts on UFO busting HERE and there is a category on the right side bar
I was brutally honest and hauled out all my finished tops, the pieces that are currently living in Top-ville. I even counted them.
There are 17 items that need finished.
11 are lap size or bigger.
ok... not as bad as I thought. Do you know why it's not as bad as I thought? Because last year I also made this grand challenge to finish UFOs.. you can look back.. not very far i might add, and see that project on the top... it was top of the list last year. oi oi oi!
So I am starting Fresh. Of the 11 larger projects I'm sorting then in the order I plan to do them.
Then I am selecting some that may never be done. I might sell the top, I might give them away... not sure, but I won't spend my time to finish them.
Then the 6 smaller projects I'll decide what to do, they are small, yeah! They can fit in here or there.
By the way.. I have about 6 projects that are so close to being done, they will get on this list VERY SOON.. so a plan is necessary!
Now for my New Years Eve Virtual Quilter's Luau! I've been hosting a Virtual sew along on New Year's Eve/Day for years. I usually give you a theme for your sewing, but of course you can sew whatever you like! The idea is share photos of your day, your projects and have some fun.. wink! We love to have Cabana boys to bring our cocktails, chef's to cook our yummy food, and there might be a bobbin boy to change bobbins.. it's a GREAT way to ring in the New Year!
I will be chatting at both my Quilt Bee and my Facebook group.

I will be starting off my New Year by working on that UFO that I was going to do LAST year. You can also take my challenge and work on a UFO.. a top or one that is in progress.
So to Kick this off.. I'd love for you to share a photo of your UFOs, what you are going to sew New Year's Eve or anything you have finished lately!
