I am very excited to be working with Craftsy to review the quilt classes for you! I'm passionate about learning new quilt techniques and fine tuning what I already know.
Today the class I am reviewing is on a topic that every quilter wants to do better... BINDINGS! This class is given by my good friend and amazing quiltmaker Mimi Dietrich!
Let's get to it!
Mimi is an author, award winning quiltmaker, and has been quilting since 1975 when she made her first quilt for her new baby.
Mimi was the VERY FIRST National teacher I heard give a talk at my guild. She was speaking at the first meeting I attended! I do believe this is why I love quilting so much. When I heard she had classes at Craftsy I knew I would be doing a review on them for you.
Every single person I talk to wants a beautiful binding on their quilt. Nobody wants to skimp on this step!
Finishing School: Edges and Binding is spot on awesome!
Here is part of the class roster.
- The Basics - trimming, folding and corners. She has this super effective demo you are going to love!
- Making Binding - her tips are worth every penny you pay for this class! And you can watch them over and over again
- Adding Trim - Kick your binding up a notch or two with a trim detail
- Corners and Scalloped edges - I was no longer afraid of a curved seam with Mimi's class under my belt!
- Creative additions - prairie points and ruffles... who doesn't want a ruffle every so often?
- and she has a bonus section on Labels and sleeves!
I think more people ask me how to 'connect' the binding ends to have a beautiful. I do think this is one of the more elusive parts of putting on the binding.
In Mimi's tutorial she shows you THREE different ways to connect the ends of your binding. That with the Craftsy exclusive '30 sec repeat' function for the video you can lock down this process and be forever successful with connecting the ends of your binding!
When doing curved bindings, cutting on the bias is really important. Mimi explains how to figure out and cut the most efficient bias strips.. then how to sew them together for the most beautiful of bindings.
When doing scallops there are a few tips Mimi has that will make all the difference in the world. Like drawing your scallop and applying the binding on the DRAWN line. She also explains how 'easing' helps and 'stretching' doesn't!
Prairie Points are something I have YET to put on a quilt, but after watching Mimi's technique I'm Ready! I like her method of making continuous prairie points and she gives us all the math to make this happen quick and easy.
The sleeve is one of the last things we add... and to be honest, sometimes I'm so ready to move on I just don't feel like it. Mimi shows us three ways to add a sleeve and one is amazingly quick for small quilts.. like really quick! You are going to love her step by step for creating a beautiful sleeve for a large or small quilt.
You also receive TWO adorable patterns (one is the spool quilt above) plus a binding yardage chart. Do you work in metric? A conversion chart is also included!
I am certain you are going to enjoy this and learn a ton of awesome techniques for finishing your quilts. I'm excited to be sharing it with you. Once you have registered, sign up for the class and it's yours forever. Watch it over and over.. and yes.. over again!
I hope you take advantage of learning how to do amazing binding from the master teacher, Mimi Dietrich!
Note: This post was sponsored by Craftsy, however the review is all mine! I am excited to share my thoughts on this class and I can’t wait to hear your comments after you try it
