I am very excited to be working with Craftsy to review the quilt classes for you. I'm so passionate about learning and teaching. I have taken many classes at Craftsy since and I've interviewed their instructors. Today the workshop I have is on a topic that was the NUMBER 1 topic you asked me to talk about, Quilting your own quilts.
Let's get to it!
I watched all the machine quilting classes at Craftsy to select the one that I wanted to share first, and Elizabeth Dackson's is hands down the one I recommend you start with.
Over the many years I've been teaching, I've taught freemotion quilting to thousands of people. It is one of the core classes I taught as a local teacher. We all want to learn to quilt our own quilts.
Elizabeth's teaching style and the format of this class is very similar to what I teach. I love the way she presents, and I think you are going to be very pleased if you order this class and take it.
Here is part of the class roster. She walks you through all the parts. If you want to skip a section, just click to the topic you want and the video goes right to it. I think this is the best feature!
The focus of this class is giving you all the tools you need to start free-motion quilting. From a basic meander to several other super 'Do-Able' stitches, Elizabeth quilts them and shows you how.
I really love the section on tools, every foot is not the same for a machine. When I was first learning to free-motion I couldn't figure out why it was so hard to move my fabric. It turns out my inexpensive machine didn't come with the right foot. So a great teacher told me to buy a generic and it made a huge difference.
The workshop also include this sweet quilt and two pillow patterns. The patterns are a bonus and I'm sure you'll have fun making them, but the core of this class is the free-motion techniques.
This Clamshell is super fun! I am going to be using it because I like that shape a lot. Elizabeth says she was inspired to find a shape that gave her the 'feel' of a baptist fan, which is curved arches, but this design is much easier to stitch!
There is a section on what design to quilt. She shares several mini quilts and shows you the quilt patterns and thread colors she selected.
The bonus section rocks! This might be my favorite. Stitching out of a corner. We all do it.. we are working and all of a sudden we are in a place we didn't want to be in. What to do?
Elizabeth shows you several spots you might be stuck in and escape routes! I love how honest she is about what to do and the options give you a way to think yourself out of that corner.
I know you are going to enjoy this and I'm excited to be sharing it with you. Once you have registered, sign up for the class and it's yours forever. Watch it over and over.. and yes.. over again!
and learn how to quilt your own quilts with Elizabeth!
