My friend Dana of the Old Red Barn wrote me awhile back and told me about her first book.. it's like a baby.. it's the FIRST one... and we ALL squeal and rejoice over the FIRST book FINALLY being published.. yes.. we all feel like that. I have had 30 books published and I still can remember how amazing it was to hold my first one.
Of course I had to have Dana on my show to chat about it... that was July 28,2014
CLICK HERE to listen to our Chat with Pat! AND Dana asked me to share her book as part of her book tour (for the list of others CLICK HERE)
So Let's get to it!
The concept of her book is to share how she looks at life and turns the things she sees into quilts. They are not 'literal' images. They are quilts inspired by what she Imagines. The top right quilt? Inspired by.. an elephant... She share about that story on my show CLICK HERE. Each quilt has a story.. and I'm ALL about the story.
On the show I told Dana that Posey Patrol is my favorite... The story is a lovely one about her mum.. you really have to listen to her share it!
So I decided that I'd make a block.. woohoo!! Using my new fabric that is just getting to your stores... call and ask!
I grabbed a charm pack and noticed that I could get the larger unit from the charm pack
PERFECT!
Next I went to my bin of scraps cut into 5" squares to find an alternate color for the sashing. Dana's original is in the lovely scrappy neutrals.
And she had shared this version with the purples. It's SO YUMMY and RICH looking.. right? And totally different than the cover quilt. It makes a secondary design that is strong in this colorway.
I decided on orange for my setting.. because.. well.. because I can! I am going to make all the outer units from the orange with white polka dots.
Here they are ready to sew. Curves curves curves... it's something that you get into the rhythm with. I have to sew a few then it kicks in..
Does this happen to you.. if you have not ridden a bike for a few years.. you need to petal up and down the driveway a few times before you are truly ready .. right? Then it Kicks in!
next was to pick the center and the sashing. I used 'One for You, One for Me' for the center and then the same for some of the oranges, and scraps for the others.
Time to press!
My block, which I am IN LOVE WITH!!!
Do I want a whole quilt of them in Orange? mmmmmm
No... I don't
it's fun to do one to try it out and warm up. I love Dana's version, but I'd also like to try one with scrappy grey prints. I have a bunch of those too. This will make a cute mini quilt! you can buy the book now at Amazon.. here is the link.

Digital - Christine P wrote "Mine will be one for my 43rd anniversary. The gift for this one is "travel". My husband and I have have had many years of traveling around the country because of his Navy career--from the East Coast to Hawai'i. We've visited the places that Pat has used for her Globetrotting BOM quilt and I'm keeping up with each one, so THAT will be my "travel" anniversary quilt! Yippee!
Book and Pattern - Eileen D wrote " The next quilts I will assemble are both president quilts. I have been president of the two guilds of which I am a member, the Rather Bee Quilters of Columbiana, Ohio and the Western Reserve Quilters of Cortland, Ohio. Both guilds have a tradition of making quilt squares and presenting them to the outgoing president. I am ashamed to say that I have not completed either one. I WILL have both done by Thanksgiving this year so I can share at Show and Tell at the guilds to demonstrate how thankful I am for all the wonderful members and all they have taught, and continue to teach, me.
