Happy 4th of July!!!
I've been talking a LOT about scraps lately.
The ocean wave quilt is a perfect project for using them up. Pick a certain colorway or make all the HST crazy wild and use the alternate to be calm (that's my tan and taupe).
When I started this quilt I wanted to use my collection of Americana fabrics. I had a lot of fabrics with flags, stars and red/white/blue goodness. This big quilt DID use up a lot, happy days!
Then I decided to pair with taupe and tans was SO FUN!
I decided to use up even more on the back
That pansy fabric has been in my collection a **cough** long time.
maybe even longer.
SO HAPPY to use it up!
I think we are often worried about 'mixing' shades of a fabric. The reds and blues are pretty consistent in this quilt. Nothing too bright.
But I went and mixed TAN with TAUPE.
WHAT???
yes .. you can.. doesn't it look great? The key is to really be sure you mix them so they are sprinkled all around the quilt and not clumped in places. That includes the HST units
What 2 colors have you been thinking of mixing?
