It's time for a Sugar Block update! I'm doing this quilt with Amy Gibson for the pure FUN OF IT!! Woo hoo! She does a lot of paper piecing and more complicated blocks than I usually work with. I'm enjoying that.. as it's just ONE block.. wink! All the links to the club are at the bottom. Let's see where this quilt is going!
I am TRYING to do each block each month, that's my goal. Last night I got caught up.. with a few days to spare.. whee!! This is the May block. It is paper pieced and I wanted that stripe in the corners to be interesting.. let's see the audition.
If i didn't set them properly when building the block they would look like this. I find this rather dull and since the stripes don't meet, it looks messy. Now if I had not done an audition I might not have thought too much about it until they were all sewn
Auditioning first saves you time!
Here is one unit with the two stripes going different ways.. YEAH! I like it! BUT.. I also want all the corners to be doing the SAME THING. So I had to plan that out. It was worth the few extra minutes to be sure I had place each one the way I wanted.
I kept this sample on the table right next to the machine so that I could check the direction had the fabric placed before sewing.
The back! When Paper piecing i leave all the papers in until I have a large unit. That way I don't stretch the block as there might be bias edges for some pieces.
The June block is so darn HAPPY!! I've got about 1/2 a yard of the dancing Marshmallows.. because we ALL NEED dancing marshmallows in our life!
When I went to build this block I decided I needed another darker rust color. I added this piece into the mix. That means I want to use it at least one more time.. maybe 2 more times in the quilt.... want to see all 6 blocks?

I ADORE the fabric and I'm so excited each month to pull them out and make the next block This is kind of a camping theme.. and I will make it lap quilt size to give to one of the guys in my life. So no flowers in this quilt .. why do guys always have the 'no flower' rule?
