Pat Sloan: Aurifil March Block of the Month

It's March and the excitement increases with each new Aurifil Block! I'm SO addicted to samplers.. just can NOT get enough of them. 

Our designer for March is the super cute Emily Herrick of Crazy Old Ladies!  she is not old.. or Crazy... well.. maybe a WEE BIT crazy.. wink!  I want to share my fabric selecting for block 3 and a TIP.. are you ready? 

First I have my tip. I hightlight the cut sizes as they are different widths

This way I don't accidently cut them wrong.. at least that is the plan.

Now to audition!

I lay out the fabric in the block order.. here is opt 1

I wanted to use the bobbins as a single row...

But since I didn't want to FORCE them to work.. I tried a different layout with the zig zag as the skinny border. 

And Option 3.. I ended up with Option 3. I love the zig zag, and wanted to 'frame' out the daisy in the center with orange

 

I laid the strips out to sew... mmmmm... I see something amiss!

Two of those orange sides are a Tiny bit too BIG!

Pat Sloan: Globetrotting my FREE Block of the month - Block 3

I am so happy to be working with the wonderful people at Free Quilt Patterns! I have designed this Mystery Block of the Month called Globetrotting!

We've been counting sleeps until city block 3 at my Quilt Along with Pat Sloan Group  everyone is SO EXCITED!  And here is City number 3.. 

CHICAGO!

Ahh.. St. Patricks day is in March and besides the entire country of Ireland, the city I think of next is Chicago! They turn the river green and celebrate like no other place.. (or so I hear!)

I am over the moon to have SO MANY of you making this quilt with me. And many of you have told me you are new to quiltmaking and stared just to make my quilt. That gives me goosebumps!  I am THRILLED you have put your trust in me!  And some of you are making quilts with girlfriends, in shops, with your moms, with your daughters, and with your grand-daugthers!

Plus many of you have told me you are new to Half Square Triangles. So in the video at at Free Quilt Patterns this month I show you the proper way to trim a HST unit.  yeah!

Pat Sloan: Kitchen Stitches - Book Review

When my talented friend Kim shared that she had projects in Kitchen Stitches I was thrilled for her! And she wanted to send me a copy... yeah!!! 

Kitchen stitches has projects from many designers, which is so fun as they all have a different take on what is needed 'in the kitchen'... from adorable to super useful, this book has it all... that cover bag.. it's SUPER clever, designed by Natalie Barnes.

Here is one of Kim's projects, a handle pot holder sleeve.

It's a slap your head, by didn't I think of that moment!  I have a secret wish to make them and give them to restaurants where I have a breakfast skillet (don't judge.. have you had one.. DIVINE)... they often bring the skillet out with a sleeve that looks like it went under the broiler.. really? Are they LOOKING at it? I could replace them with cutie patooties ones Kim designed!

When you go to a guild or church pot luck, your pot sometimes can't be plugged in.. plus... don't our crock-posts sometimes show a bit of 'lovin' on the outside.. not really something to share with the public? (you know.. the kids dripped something that burned... ok.. it was your husband... but you get the idea)

This crock pot 'cozy' will keep your dish warm and STYLIN!!  Designed by Rebecca Silbaugh

And the last one I'll show you is the coupon holder 'purse'... really this can be used for coupons.. but I'm thinking SEWING KIT!!!   Here is the good part.. well it's good for ME.  Kim shared one she made on her blog... THE CROWD WENT WILD!!!

When Kim sent me a copy of the copy.. ALONG CAME the coupon holder/sewing kit/min purse

PLUS Prince Charming!! Who doesn't love a purse with a Prince inside?

And the Dresden and pocket are RED... it was meant to be mine..
