We are having a super lively discussion OVER HERE and how to make scrappy Quilt binding came up. I so happen to be finishing a UFO with scrappy quilt binding.. so I thought I'd share what I do!

I am doing single binding, straight of grain, cut 1.5" wide. BUT you can do this with any width binding.
I am using random lengths. I do happen to have more of the paisley fabric. So I have cut that into chunks so they will be set every other one with the other fabrics. I don't want a whole SIDE of paisley binding.
Since today I'm alternating, I sorted them into the two piles

Fun right?
Load your BEST Aurifil Thread into the machine. My Perfect Neutral box if you dont mind.. wink!
I postion 2 fabric, right sides together, at right angles. This gives me a seam that is across the binding and less bulky.
Read on!
Sew the seam.
Now onto the fun part!
Chain sew all your strips together
I take it all to the cutting table and cut between the chains.
good gosh my cutting mat is dirty!....
Now to cut off the excess.
Trim all these excess triangles off
I know some of you can't bear to throw these away.. they are teeny tiny.. but I bet ONE Of you will make little half square triangles with them.. wink!
Here you can see the fabrics. Long pieces, medium.. and even some short pieces.
After I did the diagram I noticed I pieced a fabric change.. thus #8 is counted above.. ha!
There you go, a scrappy pink binding!
I do my bindings ALL by machine. It's Fast and easy and super STURDY!
