Like all of you .. I have scraps. I don't keep as many as some do, but I have them and I want to use them! When I interviewed Joan Ford about her scrap busting books her method really made sense to me, and with 2 full books of patterns.. I'm good to go!
But I added in 2.5" squares to her method. As we have leftover Jelly rolls, and I have 2 free patterns that use 2.5" squares.
Thus the journey began.
I decided to make a "Low Volumn" quilt. Meaning a quilt with very little contrast.
I decided to make 12" x 12" blocks from my light scraps only. And then I'd make my free pattern "Cider Row" CLICK HERE for that pattern
So as the blocks went up I really liked the big 16 x 16 units. So thought.. what kind of sashing could I put on, still keep it tonal, and make a queen size quilt for me?
I asked on Instagram and at my FaceBook group what you thought of my idea.. and of course I got a LOT of ideas. Teal sashing was one of them
And Grey sashing.. I'm kind of leaning to a lighter grey so they just 'blend' instead of being framed.
I've even toyed with the idea of setting them side by side for a one patch quilt!
What do you think of that idea?
Ok.. did you notice this on the top right block?
The patch ontop?
It is to cover the place where 2 of the same fabrics touch
Does that bother you as much as it bothers me?
If you are interested in Joan's books and her way of cutting scraps.. they are in these 2 books... I highly recommend you get BOTH
