I have had a blast with Sampler's this year! Amy Gibson from Stitchery Dickory Dock did a fantastic job with her Sugar Block Club directions, recipes and just the pure FUN of it!
Let me say I had a HUGE 'Slap the forehead' kind of moment the other day. I've been teasing Amy about the paper piecing (click HERE to Listen to my interviews on July 8, 2013, and Jan 7, 2013 with Amy). You see I'm not IN LOVE with Paper Piecing. I can do a bit but I'm not INNNNNNNNNNN LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVE like some are.
I was working on Block 12 (yes sometimes I am a slow learner)
When I realized that since Amy gives me the SIZE of each unit.. THAT is why I enjoyed her paper pieced blocks in this quilt
THE SIZE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could just layout out the pieces in sewing positions... and I KNEW they were BIG ENOUGH!
I realized that WHY I didn't enjoy paper piecing was the guessing at the SIZE unit I needed.
I officially LOVE Amy... notice I didn't say I officially LOVE Paper Piecing... yet... Sugar Block 2014 might just put me over the edge on that one.
Would you like to see my 2013? You would? Well let's go!
Here is block 12, which I may love more than sliced bread.. it's a close second at least.
Do you see the different fabrics in the center? Do you know why I was THAT clever? Because I didn't have enough stripe to use in all 8 positions ... so I got creative.. BOOM... problem fixed!
Let's meet the top..
Well it's ALMOST a top. Amy did a great post with lots of different options for setting (CLICK HERE to see it and if you are quick you can still enter her contest). I took the challenge to make a star for my center.
I'd seen a big star pieced like this by my friend Sarah Fiekle and always loved it.. Sarah's is bed size with 4" squares.... I still want to make it! (CLICK HERE and scroll down)
Now for the fun part... Sugar Block Club 2014... read on!
Amy is hosting a giveaway of a Sugar Block club 2014 Subscription to one of MY lucky readers!! Then you can sew along with us!
CLICK HERE to read her thoughts behind the 2014 club.. it's the price of a pattern and super fun, so be sure to get in on it!
Amy has add a 'bit more' to this club. Encouragement each month to do good. Do more. Be involved with life and community. As she puts it to "BE". I love this new aspect of her club. Here we go.. the question is....
Tell me your BIGGEST Quilt Goal for 2014
The winner is Clara who shared that her goals are "Several goals for quilting in 2014--1) complete a quilt for my grandson who is graduating with aspirations for being an engineer so I think a "modern" design would be best; 2) make a dresden plate quilt for me and 3) learn to use the longarm at my local quilt shop to finish my sampler quilt top.
Thanks for participating in Amy's sampler this year. I always enjoy your perspective--very clever to change the fabric in the center star. I would not have thought of it--I would have changed to another stripe."
Thank you everyone for sharing your Quilt goals for 2014!!
