Pat Sloan: How to decide on the RIGHT fabric option

When I teach..many people say they can NOT decide on fabric options. It is hard, they want to LOVE it when it's not.. not just any ole LOVE IT.. but

I NEED TO LOVE IT

WITH ALL MY HEART!

... that... kind of love it

This is what I showed you the last few days... and I have LOADS Of feedback in the last few posts.. at facebook and at my Online Quilt Group

I decided that the sashing will really 'define' the color of the quilt. If I used the black.. the quilt will look black. If I use the red.. the quilt will look red.. No sashing.. not sure I'm on that page .

Here is how I auditioned.

I used 2.5" wide squares. Then if I didn't use the square it goes in my basket of 2.5" squares I'm sewing together into 5 x 5 blocks (yes.. that is for another post)

I laid red fabric underneath .. it's not cut. JUST incase I don't like it

Funky zig zag stripe

MULTIPLE black fabrics that have more grey

A brownish taupe.

Here is the real deal on this one. It was the last one auditioned before I went to bed. I thought for SURE it' was DA ONE.

When I work up the next morning (sound familiar?).. oh.. it was not ... unless of course YOU love it best.. do you?

Some mustard gold, tans and butterscotch (that makes me hungry...)

A fantastic linen I have... mmmm

So what did I learn about decision (or NOT decision) making on Friday night.

I was tired

The lighting was bad

I so wanted the right choice to be made THEN... but 

I waited.

Until I got up the next day.

I waited 24 hours...

48 hours...

Now I might be ready.

Pat Sloan: The Quilter's Alphabet Selecting a Sashing Color

I am pretty sure I want sashing to separate the blocks. They are mushing for me when I have them side by side. CLICK HERE to see an audition of side by side.

But not sure the cream/taupe sashing with red corner stones is it

So tried Red sashing with cream/taupe corner stones

Several people mentioned Navy, but there is no navy in the quilt, just black. So here is the audition with black sashing... 

What do you think?

Pat Sloan: The Quilter's Alphabet

I'm sort of SQUEEZING this UFO project in each week.. some weeks I might  have sewed, and some will be auditions. BUT each week will feature TWO NEW LETTERS for our Quilter's Alphabet!

These are all my Dear Jane blocks I've made, and I'm NOT making anymore. It's been YEARS. So here they are in an audition of blocks and alphabet.

I think they need some SPACE.

Last week I showed you the pile of French General fabric I'm going to use to 'help' this quilt to the finish line. 

Here I'm trying a 1.5" wide sashing with red corners. 

Is it enough? Do I need some other fancy setting?
