Have you been to one of my talks? I share with you my Double Wedding Ring quilt. Which was maybe the 3rd quilt I ever made. During my talk I don't have time to give you the details behind my DWR. So when I was invited to be on this blog hop I jumped at the chance to share my full DWR story with you!
I learned to quilt over 20 years ago in a very tiny quilt shop located in the basement of a bank (serious!). The same instructor taught most of the workshops, beginning classes up to advanced.
And I took everything she offered. Including the Double Wedding Ring workshop
Did I mention she taught EVERYTHING by hand?
Often teaching us exactly how to draft our patterns.
I have MAD technical skills due to this instructor, I can look at a block and know how it's made, piece it by hand or by machine, and redraft it.. you know.. just for fun!
So when she offered the Double Wedding Ring workshop (all by hand, cardboard templates) this did not deter me at all.
It looked like FUN! Because you know I'd "Not Yet" done curves in my blocks!
If you were making quilts 20 years ago we did have pretty fabrics, but not a huge selection of pretty fabrics. And often you just took what was in the few stores around as
There...
Was ...
No ....
INTERNET!
that almost gives me hives thinking about it.. NO INTERNET... NO CHOICES
But we survived.
Back to my fabric choices....
Let's just say, that my fabric choices for quilts...
At that time....
Were... mmm...
Unusual.
Or as the instructor usually said
"That's Interesting"
Which code for "she had no clue how my quilt would look when I was done".. but she could see I was happy and THAT was what counted! She never told me not to use my choices... well let's just say if she DID suggest something different I didn't pay any attention.. ha!
I learned a lot from her, I sure wish I could remember her name!
Now onto the Challenge AND the Blog Hop!
ps - if YOU Know the name of the lady that taught there, send me an email!
