To you collect fabric with a "purpose"? After talking with Roseann on the radio show about road trips and what people "collect" from the trip, I decide to have a plan.
If you hang out with me for more than 5 minutes, you know I LOVE a plan! (click here and listen to the June 10, 2013 show where Roseann and I talked about collecting during our trips)
My plan, what shall it be? Years ago I collected JUST green fabric, used 2 prints and made 6" churn dash blocks from the fabrics I collected while teaching. I finally got tired of that as it was a bit too much 'green'.. wink!
So while in TX I bought this group of fabric at the "Happiness is Quilting" shop in McKinney TX where I taught last week. Some of the Texas Fabric they gave me.. and the Dutch print too (I'll show you that in a minute!)
So I announced to the classes I'm collecting PINK fabric! yes PINK! Got me some yummy pinks and the Texas fabrics.. because I HAD to have TEXAS too.
Got home and started trying to figure out WHAT block to make with Pink and thought.. mmm... I see the 'Green .. all GREEN' quilt in my head from years ago and knew I was not going to be happy doing 'All Pink' collecting.
Looking at the prints I see Red/White and Blue.... that I can work with!
And look at THIS... there is a LOT of red/white and beige in the Dutch fabric. Laura Kay told me that this fabric is all dyed by hand using the old ways of printing, it's so beautiful! you can see lots more at her website
I threw down some reproduction blue with it.. ohhh.. I like!
And look at THIS flower in the print.... love that flower!
What do YOU collect when you travel?
Fabric by theme/color/style? or something else?
And what Block would YOU sew with the red/white/blue fabrics?
FYI - winner of the Hexie book AND my Aurifil Thread kit is IS Renee who wrote "
Teal/Turquoise/Aquas and greys! Oh that would be so pretty!"
