I've wanted to make a quilt for the Quilt Alliance auction for YEARS.. and it never happened. This weekend I decide to JUST DO IT! The challenge is a 20" square quilt with the theme of 20.
I did a basic layout and knew I still had some work to do. I'm creating this one 'as I go'. If you are on my Facebook page (HERE) or at my quilt group (HERE) I sent out the photo and asked if YOU thought it was too busy.
As a teacher, a quilter, and a friend, I always find it interesting how people tell me what they think. Some are very diplomatic, many offered suggestions for how they would proceed, some are a bit 'edgy' and some ... well... some need to read twice before hitting the enter key.. LOL!
This is my sketch on what I wanted to add.
I use my camera all the time as a design tool. The dots of the sewing machine were running into the background more than I'd like.
So I made some changes...

Here it is ready to stitch!
I added a black sewing machine and it just looked like a BLACK HOLE in the quilt. bleh!
So I took an idea I had, and several others also had, to rim the polka dot machine with back. What I did was make the same size black machine. Then I trimmed about 1/4" around the whole polka dot machine. Then glued it over the black one.. PERFECT!
Finished out my applique and it's done.
It's name "Lets Go Sew"!
Guess what? You could own this quilt!
It will be up for auction (completed.. wink!) for the Quilt Alliance!
AND.. July 20th I'm a speaker at the Quilt Alliance Conference in Herndon VA.. this is just outside Washington DC.. AND.. a few blocks from MY HOUSE!

A bunch of you asked about the word fabric. It is part of my new fabric line that will be in your store in Sept. My new line is called 'Bobbins and Bits' from Moda.
The printed words is in the line, scissor fabric, the bobbins, the reds, aquas in this quilt.. ALL in the line! Everyone wants the printed selvedge!!!
