I'm so excited about getting to know the designers that are on the 2013 Aurifil team this year. When I was in Houston I had a chance to spend time with our February designer Marie-Claude Picon-Iperti.

This is my version of Marie-Claude's block! This is not a beginner's block, but if you take your time it comes out beautiful. I thought you might like to see how I made my version.
All my fabrics are in the same spots as the pattern. You can see that by looking at the cherries in the outside corner and see all the places it is repeated.
so let's make this block!
This is how I handled the angle cut. I cut my rectangle about 1/2" LONGER than the pattern
If you don't want to draw a line, you can just cut on the ruler edge
Do the other set with the cut angle that is opposite
Discard the small triangles, and now let's trim the angled block to the EXACT SIZE
See how I have the POINT at the exact size.
I found this to be the easiest and most accurate way to do this (I tested trimming after and trimming before worked best.
Layout your pattern, photo and YOUR pieces.
This block is not hard, it just takes some time as there are a lot of pieces and some are small. You want to sew slowly and carefully and be sure your units are square as you go.
I started in the MIDDLE.
Lay the shapes how you will sew them.
Add one side, then the next.
see .. one sewn!
Do the same for the larger shapes.. one side, then the next.
press inbetween. That helps you with small shapes.
Here is the center ready to sew
And all together!
Now the outer pieces.
You can see the structure now. Add the last units, sew 2 to the center, then add the corners to the remaining 2 and sew those!
