It's a "Modern" Blitz to celebrate the release of my friend Amy Ellis's new book!
"Modern Basics II" is on an internet "Blitz" today! There are 13 Quilters sharing something about Amy and her book!
Do you remember when I interviewed Amy last fall? CLICK HERE and listen to my Oct 15, 2012 interview with Amy. She tells us about a 'challenge' she had to over come while making the cover quilt. Plus she shares how her children are interested in quilting. I really love hearing the story behind the books, quilts and projects that designers are making. Their stories are just like ours, some have deep meaning, some are goofy and all the stories are inspiring!
"Buttonholes" is my favorite quilt in the book!! I think it's because I'm REALLY drawn to quilts and designs that can be made up to look "Manly". This quilt also has easy construction and the look of the final quilt can change so much depending on what fabrics you use.
I can really see myself making this quilt because of it's clean lines and it's linear setting. This version is in steel grey, black, and blue. Amy used a tiny print for the whole background which allows the buttonhole to really pop.
Change the fabrics for a spring version! Lots of cactus green, peach, salmon and mango on white.. mmm.. I think I'm hungry! At the ends of each strip set are Flying geese units done like I do them, making 2 at a time, then some corner blocks for the angles. Amy steps you through with great diagrams.
I wonder what this would look like scrappy? I am thinking each buttonhole background would be a scrappy fabrics in the same color.. like GREEN... I have a LOT of green in my stash right now. Do you think I could use the greens as background then make black buttonholes? mmmm... has me thinking! And St. Patrick's day will be here soon...
Now to the GOOD stuff! Amy has a fun BLITZ form to fill out so that you are entered to win a copy of her book PLUS some other goodies!
