Block #11 for 2017 is from the talented Heather Givans. She is a talented designer and also has a fun quilt shops! Our Aurifiil Designer challenge theme this year is the rainbow of colors found in the color wheel. Each designer is assigned a color going around the wheel and November is Green.
Since I'm designing & setting the final Designer block quilt, that means I get to see ALL the blocks in person and Heather's is amazing! I LOVE the teeny little flying geese. But if that is not your jam, I have a design option below. But first ....

I have some pretty interesting prints in the fabrics I'm using so decided to do strips instead of Flying geese. You could also use some cool ribbon here or vintage linens. Something special to showcase in a 1" finished strip..
This year I'm using French General fabric, starting with Pondicherry and adding in more I add that gold from the "Madame Rouge".. it's such a great companion to Pondicherry.
First fussy cut 1.5" wide strips.
- I put the 3/4" mark on the center of this design.
- Cut one side
- then trimmed the other side.
- left strip is 1.5" x 6.5"
- center strip is 1.5" x 4.5"
- right strip is 1.5" x 5.5"
So how does it look on backgrounds?
I wanted to use the blue floral but it feels a bit lost. The gray tonal print is much better.
Heather's block has flying geese which give each strip great definition.
The fabrics didn't do that very well. See Pic 'A'.
Making the middle strip from another fabric with a dense print was much better.
All my blocks together! You can see why I want another with the blue print. Block #12 will get that fabric!
