Just like you, I'm doing a version of The Splendid Sampler™ as the blocks come out. I want to experience this with you and I want to enjoy each designers block and their story. Block 14 is by my good friend Janet Clare. I meet her when she joined the Moda Design team and love her beautiful minimalist style of quilting. She is also a lovely person and a sweet friend.
Janet's style is very uncluttered, which is kind of the ...mmm... opposite of me. So for my background to her Flying High design I decided to use a bigger print and I wanted the birds to really POP.
I'm working with scraps, new Moda fabrics, older Moda charm packs and my own fabric lines.
The background above is an older out of print line, so I only have these squares from the charm pack. (it's called Bee My Honey a few charm packs here)
The next print I auditioned was a new line that is not out yet.. stay tuned I use it more!
I love the big dots on this one.
I decided to go with the 4-patch background.. carefully cut the squares.. which I only have those 4 ... and
ugh... cut one too small by 1/4" of an inch.
Plan B was set into action
I used two other prints from the line and I like it even better!
This is such a joy to stitch my friends designs. To take my time, even if I make a mistake, and enjoy their story. Janet's first fabric line inspired her block, it's still one of my all time favorites, but her new ones are equally amazing!
