So you have spent the last month, few days, what seems like a lifetime.....
- digging in boxes....
- sorting through bags...
- looking under the beds in the spare bedroom...
- and some of you even got your family to bring boxes down from the attic or up from the basement! It is very brave to invovle 'the family'.. I applaud you! Unless of course you told them you were sorting your Christmas decorations, in that case you are VERY creative.. wink!
You have been reporting at my Internet group on how many projects you found, your categories.. or in some cases you looked and decided to get the pile all in one spot and call it sorted!
SOME of you told me you are JUST NOT list makers.. this is fine... if it works for you... I'm happy!
Some of you even shared your dirty laundry.. your list with us...
and SOME of you announced you either
- 'had less than you thought (a very very small group of you)"
- or "more than you thought (most of you)"
I am impressed you are doing this.. IMPRESSED...
it's not easy... CLICK HERE to see MY list
Tip #2 is designed to move you towards FINISHED UFO projects...
In order to finish you MUST.... PICK SOME to work on!!!!
But WHICH ONES you ask!
Here is what you do..
you do NOT .. I repeat do NOT have to do ALL the "A" category first....
Why not?
Because that would be deadly boring for most of us!
I do not want to have to quilt 15 quilts in a row.. no way Jose!
that first photo? ALL my tops that need done
*********************************************
Here is what you do... PICK 1 to 3 to work on.
No more...
No less
- Pick one that is FAST TO FINISH to get started. Last month I put binding on a quilt, but this month I have ALL tops or projects in progress.
- Pick one that has a CURRENT DEADLINE. I have one of those! I'm going to work on the 2012 Aurifil DOM Quilt as it HAS a deadline. Has to be done to show at the trade show in May! You can do the same.
- And pick one that you REALLY LOVE and are excited to be working on. That will movtivate you to move that UFO forward! I am going to work on my "Under the Sea" round robin
- Pick one that is a LONG TERM project. I have several in progress.. maybe I'll work on my Dear Jane meets the Alphabet.
- Or Pick one (or two) that can be given as GIFTS!! And GIFTS WITH A DEADLINE are even better motivators!
Pick one you LOVE AND Can finish easily.. I'm going to give you some tips on how to get a quilt top done EVEN FASTER using this quilt in a future tip!

I may be technically challenged, but I could not find a link to your great tip for finishing a top:(

Pat, Last month I moved about 6 quilts from the "almost" pile to the "done" pile, but since I have to have them quilted, guess they aren't that done after all! I mostly make flimsies, so until I can put on the bindings, they are on MY done table. Now I have to kick several up a step or two and get 3 or 4 through the "throw down" stage and into tops. (Hopefully, I can devote most of the summer to learning to use my long arm and get them really DONE!)
As for starting, my major starts this year will be BOM's and mystery quilts. I am also hoping to empty out several drawers of pieces that have been taking up space for several years and get them to the top stage. Instead of a list of these I have stacked the drawers in the storage unit in the order I want to work on them. ( I still have a list from 8 years ago and have only been able to cross off 3 things! I hate lists-they just make me feel guilty instead of quilty!)

I'm one of the ones who actually have fewer ufo's to finish than I thought. YAY! Life is good:) The 90 that are left are sorted into 10 tubs & will get worked on or given away as I get to them. I did finish 10 of the easy ones in Jan. SO, I'm working on the next batch. My deadline for having all ufo's complete is 2 yrs. For me that's doable. Thanks Pat, for making us bare our dirty ufo secrets & coming clean with them. I think LOL

Actually I'm doing two things to bust my stash. One I made a list of 12 UFO's to complete this year, using stash fabric for backings and bindings. Two I'm cutting all my leftover scraps into Bonnie Hunter Scrap Saver sizes and sewing up some charity quilts.I'm using only stash fabric to complete the quilts. The bits and pieces too small to use as well as small batting scraps are going into dog/cat beds for the local animal shelter , using stash fabric for the exterior of the beds.

I have picked two quilts that I'd like to get done this month. One is "One That I Love". It is a sampler quilt that I started in the late 1980s when I was just learning how to quilt. It's composed of hand pieced 12" blocks.
I put the blocks together, but I don't like the layout, so I'm going to take it apart make a couple more blocks, and put it together differently. I still have some of the fabrics I used and was able to buy some new fabrics that should work well with it.
The other is an ABC quilt that is cut out and just needs to be sewn, quilted, and bound. This falls into the "Deadline" category because it is for my newest grandson and is crib sized. I need to get it done before he's out of his crib and knows his ABCs!
