I am ALWAYS thinking about organizing, is that a sickness or what? I'll dream up my perfect studio space, with beautiful storage.. like this table that Pottery Barn carries. I think I've coveted their project table for as long as they have been showing it. I'd like to add all their custom cabinets too... great chairs like these.. and a closet.
Why a closet?
I have never had a place to 'hang' projects. I love the idea of clipping blocks, yardage or tops on hangers and having them be organized in a closet.
So what is YOUR BEST organization tip? Or room you COVET?
you know.. that room on pinterest that looks too good to be true?
I'm teaching in Texas today... woot!

Pat you can make your own version of the Pottery Barn table much cheaper. Use 2 bookcases from Target or Walmart. For the top you can use a counter top,old door, good grade birch plywood. I've seen lots of them online. They turn out really nice.

If I had a favorite organization idea, my quilting room would not be the mess it is! LOL!!! Hoping to change that next week while I'm on vacation, thanks for the tips!

Once organised always clean up and put away and DON'T let anyone else in the space. That way it will stay tidy for ages.

I've been coveting that table too! I have metal baskets with projects bagged and ready to go. Stacking tubs with more projects and my most favorite of all - my rolling metal shelf with ironing board on top and plastic tubs for tools and projects on the bottom shelves. It keeps my most used items right at hand as it sits by my machine.

In one word ...IKEA. I have several of their open storage bookcases 5x5 cubes, etc. they even make baskets and clear plastic boxes that fit in a cube, for when you have small things. I have one with random scraps. Then my other favorite item is their metal bulletin boards, think cookie sheets on the reverse side. I have 4 of them side by side and they are perfect for random ideas, business cards, pictures etc. You can even get magnets that are big clips and small boxes...perfect for business cards, flyers...

My best tip: Fabric organization - I have my fabric separated in tubs by size and color. For example, I have a tub of green fat 1/4s or 1/4 yard cuts and another tub for blue 1/2 yard cuts.

If it's a sickness, then I have it, too. I'm currently renovating the upstairs of the farmhouse we just bought to be my studio, so I'm constantly scouring for ideas on how to make it the most convenient, productive, and inspiring. And . . . I have four HUGE storage closets! That table is so cool -- may have to go check that out!

Clean up after every project immediately. Put the unused fabric, your tools, absolutely everything away.

My fav one is the long basket I have under my cutting counter for my rulers, even the 24" ruler & my cutting tools. My other is a quote from Oprah's clutter guy, Peter?? "A flat surface is a work surface, not a storage surface." Helps me to keep things cleared off, so I can just jump in & get to work. Last thing I do every day, clear off my work spaces. That takes discipline, but do it every day & it becomes a good habit :)

My best organization tip is using the sets of plastic drawers to organize your supplies. That way they are contained, you can see them easily but they are also not visual clutter. You can often remove the top and stack sets together. I have a wall of these drawers in my studio.
